At a young age, Fidel joined the US Army to serve in the Vietnam War, sensing it was his duty to serve his country. He was a hard-working man, dedicated to his family and his country, everything he did was for them, of which he was extremely proud of. After over 20 years as a Correctional Officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, he retired only to realize he could still serve his community. After a short retirement period, he returned to work, only to put in a few years as a Detention Deputy for the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department and was proud of being asked to serve on the Honor Guard.

He was a magnetic force that people gravitated towards him and respected him. He was loving, caring, generous, compassionate and hilarious. If you were around him, you were guaranteed a laugh or two. He had this magic about him to bring joy to everyone around even during dark times. He enjoyed life and was determined to doing things his way. Once his mind was made up, nothing could make him falter. And once he decided to call you friend or family, he would not turn his back. No favor was too big or small. If you needed help, you could be assured that he would be there.

Dad, we cannot begin tell you how much you will be missed. You were always our go-to whenever life got tough, you were our sanity in this crazy world, and our comfort when we needed it. You were always someone that we could count on, and although you didn't have a problem telling it like it was, you managed to get your point across and always provided us with the best advice. You gave everything 110% and never stop fighting for what was right. Because of you, we have respect for others, the deep love for our family, and an insane work ethic. We thank you dad for all the phone calls, words of advice, the love you gave us and the beautiful lives we have, all because of you, your hard work and your endless love for us. We are the people we are today, Dad because of you. We know that your suffering has ended and that you have found peace with the Lord. Somehow through your final days you knew that we would be ok. Even in the end, you managed to help us find the strength needed to say good-bye for now. We will see you again one day... Until then, we will forever keep you in our hearts!
