Obituary

February 17, 1939-April 21, 2024

Florencio Ramos Aguilar, beloved husband, father, "welo", brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Florencio was born in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico. He learned the value of hard earned money when he was just a child. Dad did not finish school, but he was the most intelligent and wise man you could ever meet. We nicknamed him, "Yoda" because of his wisdom and power to problem solve anything. He was also Mr. Fix-It, nothing was a challenge for him, and he would often use what he had in hand when repairing things which also earned him the nickname, "MacGyver". Dad was a master of many trades: carpenter, builder, mechanic, analyst, and a great cook! Although he always "looked" intimidating, his best trait was being a sarcastic jokester. Anyone who met him loved to be around him because of his outgoing personality. One of his unique trademarks was wearing his famous hats.

As a young adult, he worked as a ranch handler in the Hill Country and as a migrant worker in many parts of the United States. He worked as a construction worker most of his life, which sometimes took him to work outside of San Antonio. Upon retiring, he kept active by driving around the city collecting pallets and metal scraps. He took pride in finding different ways of making extra money. Dad was always willing to give a helping hand to those who needed it and would attend food drives to provide food to others in his West Side neighborhood. To obtain more food, he would often invite his daughter to meet him at a certain location but did not like it when she would refuse and respond, "I can't Dad. I worked there. The volunteers might recognize me." His response was, "So what? You're retired!"

Dad's fun times were spent with his family and friends. Before his beloved wife's passing, he loved to make her happy by attending dancing and cumbia music events. He also enjoyed participating in his grandchildren's events, sports games, graduations, and their most important milestones. When he wanted to relax, he would prepare his famous michelada drinks, kick back, and watch movies or baseball. Unfortunately, he was converted to a Houston Astros fan by his daughter, after being a long-time fan of the Dodgers and the Texas Rangers. Nonetheless, our priceless moments were watching the Astros together and debating during the Astros versus Rangers games. Even in his 80s, Dad was a fast learner and technology did not intimidate him. He often questioned why we always got him a flip phone and not an iPhone. Dad always wanted to be up to date with the newest technology trends. He learned to use a Firestick because he wanted to be part of the streaming world and have more options for watching his favorite sports, western movies, and YouTube videos.

Our hearts are comforted that he is in heaven dancing cumbias with his beloved wife, Maria Soledad Aguilar, of 48 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister. His memory lives on through his children: Patricia (Rolando) Garcia, Melba Aguilar, Alberto (Mary) Aguilar, Juan Antonio (Blaza) Aguilar, Sr., Claudia (Luis) Villegas, and Francisco (Diane) Aguilar; grandchildren: Adrian & Kimberly Garcia; Miranda Aguilar, Marissa Garcia, Bianca Garcia, Christopher Aguilar, Adrianna Aguilar, Mariah Aguilar, Patricia Aguilar, Veronica Aguilar, Juan Antonio Aguilar Jr., Andrew Aguilar, Vanessa Aguilar, Edward Aguilar, Louis Villegas, Daniel Villegas, Michael Villegas, Richard Villegas, Katelyn Villegas, Amanda Aguilar, Brittney Aguilar and Cierra Aguilar.

Florencio is also survived by his great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, numerous relatives, and friends. Florencio will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends. We will deeply miss him, but his memory will live forever by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Su memoria sigue viva a través de sus hijos: Patricia (Rolando) García, Melba Aguilar, Alberto (Mary) Aguilar, Juan Antonio (Blaza) Aguilar, Sr., Claudia (Luis) Villegas y Francisco (Diane) Aguilar; nietos: Adrián y Kimberly García; Miranda Aguilar, Marissa García, Bianca García, Christopher Aguilar, Adrianna Aguilar, Mariah Aguilar, Patricia Aguilar, Verónica Aguilar, Juan Antonio Aguilar Jr., Andrew Aguilar, Vanessa Aguilar, Edward Aguilar, Louis Villegas, Daniel Villegas, Michael Villegas, Richard Villegas , Katelyn Villegas, Amanda Aguilar, Brittney Aguilar y Cierra Aguilar.
