Castañeda Sr.
July 4, 1933 – December 23, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George G. Castañeda Sr. on December 23, 2023, at the age of 90. George was born on July 4, 1933, to Lena Garcia Castañeda and Francisco Castañeda in the San Fernando area of San Antonio's West side. He grew up surrounded by the vibrant culture and community that shaped his character.
George attended Sidney Lanier High School, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of hard work and dedication. On April 27, 1952, he married the love of his life, Patricia Govea Castañeda, who survives him. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to family.
In April of 1954, George embarked on a career as a cement mason, a profession he dedicated 40 years to. His foundation work was with the local 773 Cement Mason union through San Antonio and beyond. His strong work ethic and skill contributed to the growth and development of the community. George's dedication extended beyond the workplace; he was an active churchgoer and a pillar of strength for his family and enjoyed helping out at St.Vincent De Paul society.
George was preceded in death by his siblings Angela Esquivel and Frances Rios. He is survived by his brother, Paul Castañeda Sr. In addition to his loving wife Patricia, George is survived by their 13 children: George Jr. (Susan), Valentino (Yolanda), Fernando (Kandra), Mark (Sandra), Carlos, Frank, David, Michael (Alex), Lena, Laura (Sal), Vincent (Anita), Edward, and Lisa. He also leaves behind 32 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, who will cherish the memories of their beloved patriarch.
George will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He was a hardworking man, a provider for his family, and a source of strength for those around him. George had a zest for life, a love for family gatherings, and an infectious sense of humor that could light up any room. His legacy of love and laughter will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
The family of George G. Castañeda invites friends and loved ones to join them in a Rosary service to honor and remember his life. The public viewing will be held on Sunday, January 7th at 4:00 PM. The Rosary service will be at 6:00 PM. Located at Castillo Funeral Home 520 N General McMullen Dr. San Antonio Tx. 78228.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 8th at 10:00 AM. Located at St. Leo's The Great Church 4415 S Flores St. San Antonio Tx. 78214. Memorial gathering at St. Leo's Civic Center from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
The family welcomes all who wish to pay their respects, your presence will be deeply appreciated during this time of remembrance and reflection. May George G. Castañeda rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love of those who cherished him.
