George Carabajal Cruz, a proud son of San Antonio, dedicated public servant, and master storyteller, has passed away. He leaves behind a legacy defined by honor, deep family roots, and a lifetime of unforgettable adventures.Born and raised on San Antonio’s vibrant West Side, George grew up as one of ten children. In a bustling household and a tight-knit community, he was surrounded by a large, loving family of siblings, cousins, and lifelong neighborhood friends. These early years shaped the man he became: fiercely loyal, deeply connected to his roots, and always happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.George’s life was defined by a profound commitment to service. He proudly answered the call of duty, serving and retiring from the United States Marine Corps. His time in the service took George far beyond the West Side streets of his youth, taking him overseas and across many states. George didn't just live these adventures; he brought them home with him. A natural storyteller, he had a unique gift for weaving tales of his travels. To listen to George tell a story was to be transported; he had a way of making his loved ones feel as though they had lived those experiences right alongside him. His dedication to his country continued long after his military uniform was laid down, as he went on to complete a second honorable career and retire from the U.S. Postal Service. Beyond his service, George was a man who embraced the simple, beautiful joys of life. If you knew George, you knew his deep love for music and eight-liners as well as his unwavering devotion to family and friends. He found his greatest peace by the water, with the coast and the lake ranking among his absolute favorite places to be. Whether listening to a favorite song, sharing a laugh with loved ones, or looking out over the water, George knew how to appreciate the moment.George is preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Dolores Cruz, and brothers Abraham Cruz, Gilbert Cruz, and Jesse Cruz. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Cruz, his three children, Monica Ruiz, George Cruz, and Georgette Ramirez (Raul); stepdaughters, Annette Scott (Ronnie), Sarah Téllez, Patricia Villarreal (Freddie), and Stephanie Garza (Luis); 23 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and countless family and friends he touched along the way. Semper Fi, George. Your stories, your humor, your love and your spirit will never be forgotten.
