Obituary

George Gamez, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of April 24, 2024 at the age of 70. He was surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. George was born in Crookston Polk, Minnesota on July 20, 1953 to Benito Gamez and Ignacia Rodriguez. He served in the Marine Corps. and was an honorable and proud Marine. He married his lifelong sweetheart Lily Bryan Gamez on December 2, 1975. George worked in construction for a little over 40 years and retired as a superintendent from Niznik Construction in 2015 to bravely fight and defeat esophageal cancer. He loved football and baseball and took great joy in watching his children and grandchildren compete in sports. He helped coach the Lanier Jr. Voks when the organization first began and watched his kids and grandchildren play for Sidney Lanier High School throughout the years. George, a truly remarkable soul who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. George's selflessness and unwavering dedication to others set him apart as a shining example of compassion and generosity. His boundless love and willingness to go the extra mile for those in need served as an inspiration to us all. As we mourn George, let us honor his memory by carrying forward his legacy of kindness and empathy in our own lives. Most precious to George were the beautiful memories he created with his family throughout his lifetime on earth. He is quoted as saying, "My favorite time is when I have my family around me". He will be missed tremendously.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Benito Gamez and Ignacia Rodriguez; siblings, Antonio De La Cruz, Cruz De La Cruz, Jesus De La Cruz, Francisco Gamez, Jose Gamez and Elida Gamez. George is survived by his wife, Lily B. Gamez; daughter, Rosalee B. Arcos (Peter); sons, Benito Gamez, George Gamez Jr., and Joshua Gamez (Rosalie); siblings, Raul De La Cruz, Alberto De La Cruz, Maria Luisa Christianson, Olivia Del Toro, Virginia Guillen and Mary Esther Trevino; grandchildren, Benito Gamez Jr., Sean Gamez, Serena Arcos Burnham, Lillian Arcos, Brandon Arce, Devin Gamez, Noah Gamez and Audrey Arcos; great-grandchildren, Caeli Rose Gamez and Payton Lyla Rose; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
