Gilbert George
& Josephine Warren
September 24, 2021
Our loving mother and grandmother, and our caring father and grandfather, Josephine "Grandma" Valdez Warren and Gilbert "Grandpa" George Warren, both age 90, went together to be with the Lord the weekend of September 24th, 2021.
Grandma was born in Bexar County, TX, on April 22, 1931, a daughter of the late Frank and Anita Borego Valdez. She was the first of four children. On December 10, 1955, she married Gilbert "Grandpa" George Warren. He is the son of the late Edward and Remigia Pintor Warren. Grandpa was born on October 30, 1930 in Bexar County, TX and was the first of four children as well. They shared 65 long and celebrated years of marriage together during their time in San Antonio.
Grandma had a kind, caring, loving and selfless spirit. She always placed faith and family first in her long and prosperous life. Grandma was an active member in the St. Dominic's Catholic Church. She fulfilled her long years by working for Edger Tobin Surveys in her early years and taking care of her two children. She hosted special gatherings for family and friends often. Grandma loved to travel and see her favorite music artists in concerts. She always had a positive, joyful outlook on life. On a regular basis, she would gather with friends to play Bunco and make ceramic gifts. Most of all, Grandma enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She would sit with us, stroke our hands, and listen, as we spoke with her about the most important things in life. She was always patient and took tremendous care of her grandchildren when they came to stay with her and grandpa. During the holidays, grandma would make the absolute best meals and desserts for her family. Everything she did was done with tender, care, and love.
Grandpa also placed faith and family at the forefront of his long and illustrious life. He was a proud Cartographer at Fort Sam Houston, which tied in with his love of art and creation. Grandpa was a phenomenal artist, drawing and painting beautiful portraits and scenery of all types with his incredible imagination and wonder. He also loved music as a form of art, always enjoying his large collection of records while exercising or enjoying his days outdoors. He had the spirit of an adventurer, always approaching the world around him with curious wonder and sense of awe about the beauty of life and nature. Whether it was taking his grandchildren on wagon rides through the neighborhood woods, taking his long walks through the wilderness, or traveling to Europe with his family, he always shared and passed on his adventurous nature with his loved ones. Grandpa valued his family above all else, and always wanted to share his lived experiences with his grandchildren.
Both Grandma and Grandpa shared a common sense of pride for their children and grandchildren. For every special occasion, milestone, holiday, and sporting event, Grandma and Grandpa always arrived early to support and celebrate with us. They proudly displayed their grandchildren's pictures throughout their home.
There is no doubt that these two wonderful, caring people were perfect for each other. With 65 years in the books, they have led by example in fulfilling a committed marriage. The way they took care of each other through so many years, was something each and every one of their family members have learned from.
Grandma and Grandpa will always be loved and deeply missed by their children, Sylvia Jimenez (Carlos) and Steve Warren; her siblings, Frank Valdez Jr.(Yolanda) and Mary Helen Davila; his siblings, Margie Perales and Santa Warren, their six grandchildren, Joseph Warren, Jacob Warren (Katherine), Dominique Villarreal (Jose), Lorissa Warren, Nathan Jimenez, and Danielle Jimenez. As well as their brother in law Robert Medina, numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and God Children.
They are preceded in death by Elizabeth Jimenez, Marie Guadalupe Medina, John Perales, Juan Reyna, Emma Reyna and Johnny Reyna.
The Rosary will be held on October 12, 2021 at 6:00pm at Castillo Mission Funeral Home. The mass will be held on October 13th at St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 10:00am and the procession to San Fernando Cemetery #2.
