Obituary

Gilberto T. Valdez, 77 of San Antonio, passed away on Monday 29, 2021 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 5, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962-1968 with 4 th Reconnaissance Battalion 4 th Marine Division as a 0311 Infantryman. He was proud of his training and determination which he applied to all aspects of his life to include hunting, fishing, shooting and playing guitar. His hard work and precision was also evident in his masonry work where he built many structures and buildings of brick and stone. When you shook his hand you knew he was a man's man. He enjoyed discussing his military experiences and his adventures growing up in the hills of Bandera. He was a proud supporter of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and was designated as a Guardian of Israel for his contributions to the needy people of Jerusalem.

He is preceded in death by his parents Raul and Victoria Valdez, his brother Reymundo T. Valdez, his son Gilbert Valdez Jr., and grandson Jason M. Wirth.

He is survived by his common-law wife Santa S. Jimenez, his children David Valdez (Linda), Gregory Valdez (Julie), Genevieve V. Wirth, and Edward Valdez (Elvira). He is loved by his 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to 4 brothers and 2 sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

Our Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend will be greatly missed. He will forever remain in our hearts and minds. Till we meet again Old Devil Dog! Semper Fidelis!
