Gloria B. Sanchez passed away at home on October 1, 2020 at the age of 73. She is preceded in death by her parents Alex J. Bernal and Laura I. Bernal.

Born Gloria Ann Bernal and the oldest of six children, sisters, Laura Aguero (Vince); Dorothy Garza; and brothers, Xavier Bernal (Jane); Alex Bernal (Sissy); and Robert Bernal. Gloria grew up strong willed and determined, as evidenced by her work and education. She became a nurse in 1975 and worked in that regard, first as an LVN, then an RN when she ultimately retired in 2019. In 2007 she received her Master's in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 47 years, Dickey E. Sanchez, daughter Barbara Castillo (Mike); and sons, Stanley Lerma (Monica); Dickey Sanchez Jr.; grandchildren, Jessica, Julia, Axan, Julian, Lyla, and one great grandchild, Jarron.

Gloria spent her life doing exactly what she wanted to do. She had numerous hobbies, sewing, knitting, quilting, embroidery, and scrapbooking. Gloria, a woman of faith, was fearless and witty. Her compassion was evident in her years of caring for many people throughout her life. She also loved her dogs, Chiquita, Precious, and Baby. Her contagious smile and beautiful soul will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Visitation will take place at Castillo Mission Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A funeral procession will depart on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery (ETA 10:45 a.m.).
