Guadalupe S.
Garza
January 20, 1932 – April 9, 2026
With deep sorrow and heartfelt remembrance, we announce the passing of Guadalupe S. Garza, lovingly known as Tía Lupe, who passed away on April 9, 2026, at the age of 94. She was born on January 20, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas.
Guadalupe, a devoted wife and woman of faith, was married to her beloved husband, Jose Juan Garza, for nearly 47 years until his passing in 2001. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, and commitment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriela Castillo and Concepcion Salinas; her sisters, Eulalia S. Hernandez, Trinidad S. Rodriguez, Carmen S. Lopez, and Maria de Lourdes S. Lopez; and her brothers, Gumecindo Salinas and Luis Salinas.
Guadalupe worked in retail and found joy in traveling and dancing, but it was her deep Catholic faith that defined her life's purpose. She devoted countless hours volunteering within her parish and beyond, giving generously of her time and spirit. Her dedication to religious education brought her the greatest fulfillment. She lovingly prepared children for their First Communion and made it a priority to pass on the rich cultural traditions of the Catholic faith and Mexican heritage, including celebrations such as Las Posadas.
Her unwavering commitment was recognized by the Archdiocese with the Lumen Gentium Award, a testament to the lasting impact of her service and devotion.
Although Guadalupe had no children of her own, she embraced a large and loving family. She is cherished by her many nieces and nephews, as well as generations of their children, grandchildren, and extended family members. She was also a beloved godmother to more than 30 children, each of whom she held close to her heart.
Cheerful, kind, and deeply loving, Tía Lupe will be greatly missed but forever remembered by all who knew her.
"To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die."
