Gustavo Vasquez
Diaz
February 21, 1944 – May 30, 2025
The family of Gustavo Vasquez Diaz is heartbroken to announce his passing on Friday, May 30th, at the age of 81. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by those who loved him and his departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Gustavo is preceded in death by his loving parents, Victor and Virginia Diaz, as well as his beloved wife, Celia Guerra Diaz, their son Miguel Diaz, and his brother-in-law, Arturo Pena. Despite this deep sorrow, he is survived by his devoted son, Gustavo Diaz (Jennifer), and his loving daughter, Ruby Root (Donovan). He will also be remembered by his grandchildren: Julianna and Olivia Diaz, along with Adam, Joseph, Thomas, Amelia, and Alison Root. In addition, Gustavo is survived by his siblings: Virginia Pena, Aurora Diaz, Victor Diaz, Manuel Diaz (Marie), and his sister-in-law, Hope Gonzales (Ernesto).
Gustavo's roots are deeply embedded in San Antonio's westside, where he spent his formative years. He received his education at Burleson Elementary, followed by Escobar Junior High, and Edgewood High School. His academic journey culminated at St. Mary's University, where he earned degrees in both Music and Mathematics.
In his early years, Gustavo's passion for music led him to travel and perform with several orchestras, sharing this love with audiences far and wide. Eventually, he was called to education, dedicating himself to teaching as a band instructor and a special education teacher.
Gustavo was a man of deep love and compassion. He nurtured relationships with family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and warmth. His memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him. He will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in the knowledge that he is once again with his wife Celia.
