Hector Prouty
Campos
August 16, 1957 – September 23, 2024
Hector Prouty Campos, 67, was called Home in the early morning hours of September 23, 2024 while surrounded by his loved ones in his native San Antonio, TX
Hector was born on August 16th, 1957 to parents Francisco and Mary Campos. He studied and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1975 having participated in the school's golf club and football team while becoming a namesake amongst his peers. He continued his education at San Antonio College while volunteering his time and efforts to the local YMCA in his neighborhood. Hector, a purveyor of good music could often be found at live rock concerts or scouting record stores – a passion he would later share with his middle child Jaclyn. Although never formally trained - his pursuit for knowledge lead him to learn the trade of building maintenance and HVAC services for the Milam building in San Antonio.
In 1983 Hector began his career with the San Antonio Fire Department on the city's westside that would span the course of 35 long but fulfilling years. This event would coincide with another huge milestone - welcoming his first child a baby girl named Vanessa with his then wife Norma. He would continue to contribute to his community; often coaching local youth alongside his only son Hector "Isaac" in baseball, basketball, and football. These ventures often led to family trips across the United States in pursuit of a win resulting in lifelong memories and stories that continued for days.
In 2017 Hector married his wife Sheila Galindo-Campos and later retired as a private from the fire department after a lifetime of service to the neighborhoods and communities that raised him. Having influenced generations of younger firemen – Hector was highly respected among his peers ultimately leaving them with lessons learned and wisdom to flex.
True to form and fashion, even in retirement, Hector kept himself busy with home improvement type projects, gardening, time spent with his grandchildren, and frequent weekend trips to visit with his family in the Gulf Coast. A lover of all things interesting - Hector was eager to try new recipes, educate someone about a new show or study, or even engage in debate or thought-provoking conversation. Simply put he was a man who could offer perspective on just about anything and make friends with anyone whoever stood beside him in a line.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Raul and Rene Campos. Hector is loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Sheila Galindo-Campos; his children, Vanessa, Jaclyn, and Hector Isaac Campos and his wife Samantha; grandchildren, Hector Joseph Campos, Miles Elliott Hudon, and Lillian Marie Delapaz; his siblings Frank Campos and his wife Sylvia, David Campos and his wife Diana, Maria Campos, and Cynthia Campos, numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
