Henry
Castillo
May 16, 1935 – January 19, 2025
Henry Castillo passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025 at the age of 89 years old. He was
born in San Antonio, Texas on May 16, 1935 to Cleto and Manuela Castillo.
Henry attended Sidney Lanier High School in San Antonio and served as Colonel of the Lanier
ROTC and graduated in 1953.
He served in the US Army as a Sergeant and worked as a helicopter crew chief mechanic from
1953-1956. Once he left the Army, Henry worked out of his home garage for many years as a
furniture upholsterer. He was very skilled and his work caught the eye of a dean and he was
asked to work at St. Philip's college and teach the new, upholstery courses being offered at the
campus while working towards his own associate's degree. He worked at the college for the
next 30 years.
Henry was an avid basketball player. He played in many leagues including the Senior YMCA
league and continued to win many games and medals throughout his years. Henry had a 3
point shot from the corner that was rarely missed. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, his wife, his
daughters and God. He was a very devoted man and worked hard his entire life. At the end of
his career at St. Philips, he was honored by the local newspaper for his accomplishments of
never missing a single day of work his entire career at Alamo Community College.
Henry was married to his wife Maria for 61 years. They have two daughters, Anna and Diana.
He was blessed to have 8 grandchildren, Henry, Alana (Brandon), Hallie, Alex,(Briana), Hanna,
Andrew, AvaLyn, Adrian; and 6 great grandchildren; Mila, Sofia, Sylar, Christian, Aurora and
Reign. Henry also leaves behind nephews, nieces and many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cleto and Manuela Castillo, brother Richard Castillo and
great grandson, Christian Ray Guzman.
