Henry P.
Romero
March 7, 1936 – April 8, 2025
Henry Romero entered eternal rest on April 08, 2025 at the age of 89 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in a small town known as La Parrita, Texas. Henry leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and honor that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Henry was devoted and dedicated to his family, home, and his occupation. He had a way of bringing joy to everyone. His laughter was contagious, his jokes unforgettable. No matter circumstances, he made sure we could always find something to smile about. He represented joy. He taught the importance of love, strength, respect, and hard work. He often reminded us that, "a man's got to do, what a man's got to do."
Henry married Irma Romero, the love of his life, who he referred to as his "honey bun" for 66 years before becoming widowed. Together, they had 6 children, 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He retired after 43 years as a lead cook at the iconic Pig Stand across San Antonio. His determined work ethic began in his early ages as a migrant worker picking cotton, sweet potatoes, and strawberries in several parts of the U.S.
Henry was passionate about gardening and harvesting flowers, lush greenery, fresh vegetables, and fruit trees. He was skilled in mechanical work. He enjoyed weekends, which often included selling items at the flea market with his children and grandchildren. On his free time, he enjoyed going to bingo, seeing his son's drag race at the Alamo drag race track, and going on long drives to Lacoste church.
He is survived by his children Petra Fernandez and spouse John Fernandez, Yolanda Alvarez, Sylvia Rios, and Jerry Romero with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and brother Eddie Romero with surrounding family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Romero, sons, Henry Romero Jr. and Larry Romero, and grandchildren Benjamin Alvarez Jr and Hector Rios.
