Herlinda Garza
Aguirre
January 5, 1933 – June 12, 2025
Herlinda Garza Aguirre, a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, earned her angel wings Thursday, June 12, 2025. She was 92, and until her last days, lived life to it's fullest.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Aguirre Jr.; son, Rene Aguirre; grandsons, Jacob Aguirre and David Davila; parents Santana Garza Sr., and Herlinda Serna Garza; sister, Dora Garza Zavala; and brother, Santana Garza Jr.
She is survived by her children, Martha Rodriguez and wife, Alma Montez; Leticia Aguirre, Jimmy Aguirre and wife, Marta; Gilbert Aguirre III and wife, Melissa; and Xavier Aguirre and wife, Linda; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Delfina Aguirre Anthony, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born Jan. 5, 1933, in San Antonio, Herlinda, known as Linda, met the love of her life, Gilbert Aguirre Jr., at Elmendorf Lake. Once they married, they soon began having their family, which would eventually grow to span five generations. They were inseparable and enjoyed each other and their children and especially hosting family gatherings.
Both lovers of the cowboy and Charro life, Gilbert and Linda passed that passion onto their children, teaching each of them how to ride and train horses. A particular joy was attending horseraces, a tradition that continues to live on today.
Linda was an exceptional cook of traditional Mexican dishes and for many years would make homemade tamales with the assistance of her children and family, giving most away as gifts.
To those who knew her, Linda was a pillar of strength, a force to be reckoned with, and a playful woman with a quick wit. She commanded a room with her beauty, grace, and pure, direct honesty, and loved hard.
Linda loved to travel. She visited Mexico, as well as Spain, Italy and Portugal. An avid reader, she loved getting lost in books, once saying that she could continue to travel the world through the stories that she read.
After the death of her husband in 1983, Linda went to work for the Edgewood school district as a teacher's aide at Emma Frye Elementary School. She made many friends while there and loved working with children. Once she retired, she relished whenever she ran into those children she helped teach as they reached their adulthood.
After retirement, Linda moved in 2011 to Adkins, Texas, in Wilson County to live with her son, Gilbert Aguirre III, his family, and their horses, at the Aguirre Ranch. There, she enjoyed the peace and quiet of the outdoors.
Linda made quick friends with the clients who would take their horses to the ranch for training. It wasn't long before they would affectionately call her grandma.
The Aguirre family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the people who cared for Linda, especially Dr. Lyssa Ochoa, and Monica and the staff at the S.A.V.E. Clinic.
