December 31, 1949 – June 23, 2024
A brilliant ray of light and love was extinguished on June 23,2024. Linda Cortinas died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. Linda was the eldest child born to Susie Perez and Robert Ramon on December 31,1949. She was a kind, caring, happy, generous, strong and resilient lady. Linda reflected God's light to everyone she met. She worked at Kelly AFB until she became ill with leukemia in 1987. After receiving a successful bone marrow transplant from her sister, Trini, she continued to live in remission.
Always remaining close to her childhood roots and friends, she was the founder of the San Antonio Barrio Girls, a group dedicated to giving back to the old neighborhood by providing school age children in need with clothing and school items. She coordinated Coushatta and Kickapoo trips on what was known as the "party bus" and donated proceeds to the Ghost Town Survivors and SABG. Linda and her husband, Alfredo were members of the Fiesta Flambeau Association tending to detail of planning a successful parade.
Linda enjoyed playing Loteria, singing, and dancing. She was involved in her children and grandchildren's activities.
Linda is preceded in death by her father, and her husband of 45 years, Alfredo Cortinas in 2020. She is survived by her daughters Pamela M. Monreal daughter of Manuel Rodriguez (Jaime) and Yvonne Rivera (Jeff); grandchildren; Amorie Monreal, Javier Monreal (Angelica), Evan Rivera, step-granddaughter; Sydney White (Andrew) ; great grandchildren Aiden, Mylah, Jake, and Elliana; her aunt Elida Mireles (+Stacy); her siblings Trini Ramon, Patty Rodriguez (Robert), Oralia Encina (Joey), & Richard Perez (Diana); and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, especially lifelong friend since kindergarten, Oralia Cepeda.
We will miss you terribly, but your memory will live in our hearts forever. Now, God has you in His arms shining Perpetual Light upon you.
The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home on Monday, July 8, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation and at 6:00 pm for a Rosary Service.
A funeral mass will be conducted at St. Dominic Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 10:00 am.
