Obituary

Herminia Juarez Hernandez, 89, entered into God's kingdom on April 16, 2023. Mine, as she was affectionately known, was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Our mom embraced life and enjoyed it to its fullest. She was outgoing, charming and enjoyed a keen sense of humor which immediatedly drew people into her orbit. Our late father, Zeferino, would often jokingly and with more than just a bit of pride say to his children "I can't take your mother anywhere, she knows and has friends all over". To this, mom would reply with a twinkle in her eye "Yo soy como soy" or "I am as I am". The ease with which she sought to alleviate others' burdens through humor and laughter fully characterized her. Mine's lasting legacy will be that special gift she lovingly and through example instilled in her children. We strive to emulate her generosity of spirit; sharing a smile, a laugh or a kind word to lighten the overburdened hearts of those around us. Mom, who did not receive any formal education and never so much as heard of dopamine, became our greatest teacher; through her we learned about the therapeutic effect of smiling and laughter.

Herminia's story begins in San Luis Potosi, Mexico; there she is born to Catarino and Maria Luz Juarez in 1933. The family moved to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas shortly therafter. It was there that Mine and Zeferino met and married. The promise of a better future for themselves and their hoped-for family brought them to San Antonio,Texas in 1957. Dad held a position at City Public Service and mom stayed home attending to the needs of their ever-expanding brood. Thusly, together they exemplified the promise and spirit of the American Dream.

Herminia was preceded in death by her devoted husband Zeferino, her son Zeferino Jr., her siblings Apolonia, Margarita, Andres, Ruperto, Leonarda and Isidro. She is survived by her children Juan Gerardo, Guadalupe, Maria Narcisa, Rosa Maria and their respective spouses; Sandra "mi nuera favorita" Luz Hernandez, Jimmy Martinez, Nick Garcia and Jason Robert Grose, Sr. Those whom were blessed to have called her grandma are Gerardo Adan Hernandez, Jasmine Janell, Justin James and Julissa Jade Martinez, Lauren Elise, Nick D. Jr. and Lillianna Rose Garcia, Jason Robert Jr., Jarrett Walker, Joshua Oakley and Jonah Wayne Grose; their loving and supportive spouses Sheila M. Hernandez, Gregory Cervantes, Jazzmyn Rodriguez, Jesus Castro, Jonathan Gutierrez, Joann Vidaurri de Garcia, Juan Carlos Martinez and Morgan Grose. Abundant joy was brought to our beloved mom through numerous great-grandchildren; Shadan Elizabeth Hernandez, Gregory Jr. and Jayme Alexander Cervantes, Noelia Jade and Natalia Jolie Castro, Jonathan Jr. and Gabriel Gutierrez, Rodrigo Nicolas and Frida Jacqueline Garcia, Brady James and Lucille "Lucy" Karla Grose.

Mother, without fail, would pray to each of the saints after Sunday Mass at Guadalupe Church. Hallelujah and rejoice for they and our Heavenly Father have welcomed her home to His everlasting Glory!
