Hortencia M. Tovar passed away peacefully on February 28, 2022, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. She was 74 years old. Hortencia was born in San Antonio, Texas, on October 29, 1947. In the summer of 1962, she married the love of her life Juan Tovar Sr., and had 6 beautiful children. Hortencia was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. She enjoyed cooking, baking, spending time with her family and most of all, her grandchildren. She always welcomed everyone into her home. She treasured the beautiful memories she created with her family throughout her 74 years on this earth. She will be missed tremendously.

Hortencia is also preceded in death by her parents, Jose & Hortencia Mendiola; son, Juan Tovar Jr.; grandson, Joseph Tovar; brothers, Chema Mendiola, Gibo Mendiola, Riche Mendiola, George Mendiola Sisters Mary Ann Narvaez, Yolanda Jimenez. Hortencia is loved and will be missed by her children, Cindy (Riche) Salazar; Rachel (Jesse) Pina; Joe (Ruby) Tovar; Jimmy (Valerie) Tovar; Ricardo (Chrissy) Tovar; Sister Susie (Tano) Gonzalez, brother, Henry (Lisa) Mendiola; sister, Gloria Barquin; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces,
nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be at Castillo Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral Procession departs at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022, for a 10 a.m. Mass at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Interment follows at San Jose Burial Park.
