It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our father, Humberto Chavez, who entered into eternal rest peacefully on July 14, 2026, at the age of 83.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carolina Chavez; his children, Leticia Miorelli, Yolanda Ramirez (Jesse), Hortencia Escobedo (Albert), Roberto Chavez, Alfredo Chavez, Maricela Castellano (Reynaldo), Sandra Chavez, and Anna Muñoz (Mario); as well as 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seferina Cerpa and Arnulfo Chavez, brother Salvador Chavez, and his children, Graciela Chavez and Ricardo Chavez.

Born on December 13, 1942, in Jarrillas, Guanajuato, Mexico, Humberto was raised in a humble home where he spent his early years farming his father's land. He married at a young age and moved to Mexico City, where he and his wife owned a tailoring business. In search of a brighter future for their growing family, they immigrated to the United States. Humberto worked tirelessly to provide his family with an education and a strong future, eventually retiring after 32 years with Luby’s Cafeteria. Highly esteemed and respected by all who knew him, he was known as a stern yet kind man who valued hard work, often taking on double shifts and selling his vacation time to care for his family. A self-taught musician, Humberto loved to sing, play the guitar, and play the accordion, frequently serenading us after Sunday Mass while Mom made sopes.

Humberto spent his retirement years at home with his wife, tending to his garden—which he affectionately referred to as his "little milpita," connecting him to his roots. He enjoyed watching western movies, especially the ones starring John Wayne, cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved family get-togethers, especially when beating us at loteria and poker.

There was never a dull moment with Grandpa Chavez, as we all referred to him. He was full of spirit and had a wonderful sense of humor. He lived life to the fullest and always reminded us, “Don’t work so hard that you forget to live.” Though he worked hard all his life and sacrificed time with his family to ensure they always had a roof over their heads and food on the table, his love and presence were always deeply felt. Grandpa remained humble, never forgot where he came from, and never complained, even in his final days. Although no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of God and reunited with his loved ones.

Until we meet again Dad, may you rest in God's eternal peace. We love you forever.
