SMSGT Humberto E. Rodriguez, affectionately known as "Popo", was born on December 23, 1946 in Nuevo Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico. He was called home to be with our Lord on Friday, December 11, 2020, after fulfilling his lifelong dedication to God, his family, and his country. He was proud to be a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a friend to all, and truly never knew a stranger. His genuine smile, charismatic character, and energy that drew people like a magnet, will forever be missed. He gave sacrificially of everything that was important to him, especially his time which he always said he had the least of. All those who he impacted and countless people he helped realize the sun sets dimmer in Texas, without him here. He graduated from Brackenridge High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served for 38 years, in 3 branches of the military and served during Vietnam, transporting Agent Orange, and providing logistical air support during the Desert Storm Gulf War, retiring in 2004. He retired having received numerous medals and awards however, he always held his Family as his Greatest Achievement. He simultaneously pursued a career in civil service at Kelly AFB for 37 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Manuel and Julia Rodriguez, his brothers Crecencio Angel and Ruben Rodriguez. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Rosaria B. Rodriguez, his siblings Rosa Perez, Christina Castillo, Consuelo Fernandez, and Juan Rodriguez. He is also survived by his children Rosemary Rivera (Alfredo), Steven Rodriguez, Sandra Torres (Joel), Leticia Gonzales (Joey), Priscilla Obledo (Diego), Jennifer Waters (Adam), his grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Michelle Martinez, Stephanie Reyes, Erica, and Eric Rivera, Samantha Heredia, Matthew, Michael, and Melanie Obledo, as well as 22 great-grandchildren. A public viewing is scheduled for Monday, December 21, 2020 from 4pm to 5:30pm at the Restoring Church on 8308 Fredericksburg Rd., San Antonio, TX 78229, with Full Military Honors and a service to follow at 6pm.
