Irma F.
Romero
March 23, 1938 – March 25, 2024
Irma F. Romero, 86, wife of Henry P. Romero, went to be with the Lord in peace on March 25, 2024, at her residence in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on March 23, 1938, in Laredo, Texas, daughter of the late Severa Leon and Arturo Flores.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Edgewood Independent School District for 25 years as a cafeteria worker and baker. She handmade all sorts of school foods, pastries, buns, sliced breads, and served countless children meals with love. She was known for serving students double portions and seconds due to her big, kind heart.
Her kind heart paired with her giving soul were the essence of her remarkable life and is testament to the impact she made on all those who knew her. She was keen on celebrating every birthday, holiday, and always giving thoughtful gifts to her grandchild and great grandchild. As a natural caregiver, she accepted every person that came into her home and treated them as if they were her own family.
Holidays were her specialty; she made every occasion more than special. Easter was full of her homemade cascarones. She painted each eggshell, stuffing it with her hand cut confetti, and layering it to bring great joy to all who knew her. On Christmas Day, Irma competed with Santa Claus making sure that everyone had a thoughtful and special gift, because in her eyes no one was ever forgotten.
She is also remembered for her infamous cooking, fresh buttery homemade tortillas, and delicious beans.
Her savory stuffing on Thanksgiving Day will always be a family favorite tradition. During the holidays the aroma of her freshly steamed tamales filled her home and will always be savored not only in mouths, but also in the hearts as a memory she created with love.
Always a true fashionista she sparkled in every setting. A true dedicated fan, when it came to her Dallas Cowboys she was always in her navy blue, silver, and white. San Antonio was her heart, "Go Spurs go!" was not only her motto it was also her wardrobe on game day.
Her grace and elegance were never compromised. Even when she was at home, she was glamorous and well dressed in dangling earrings, immaculate makeup, and ravished others with her beauty. Her grace and elegance were who she was.
Irma leaves not only her beloved children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her true love, her husband, Henry, the only man meant for her. The man who understood her, loved and cared for her. He was her solid rock. Their love was that of a storybook. Through rainbows and storms, they held each other high. Their smiles and laughter together were infectious. Their conversations were of everlasting joy. Together they had 6 beautiful children following a large family they grew with pride. And it is because of them that the legacy will live within us.
Irma is remembered for her grace, class, joy, life, true love for her husband and family, and most importantly the seeds that she has embedded in each and every one of us that we now carry forever.
She is preceded in death by, her sons, Larry Romero and Henry Romero, and a grandson, Benjamin Alvarez Jr.
Family members include her husband of 66 years, Henry P. Romero; children, Petra Fernandez (John Fernandez), Yolanda Alvarez, Sylvia Romero and Jerry Romero; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great - great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home on Sunday, April 7, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation and at 6:00 pm for a rosary service.
