In Loving Memory of
Jerry A. Girela
September 26, 1961 – February 5, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry A. Girela, age 64, who entered eternal rest on February 5, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on September 26, 1961, in San Antonio, Jerry was a lifelong resident of the city he proudly called home.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Girela Sr.; his mother, Margaret Evelyn Girela; his beloved wife, Lorraine Chavez; his son, Jerry A. Herrera Girela; and his brothers, Andrew Girela and Robert Girela Jr.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children and extended family. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie M. Girela Ledezma and son-in-law, Alberto Ledezma; their children, Christine Annette Ledezma, Alberto Ledezma Jr., Tatiana Mia Ledezma, and Noah Bo Ledezma.

He is also survived by his grandsons, Jerry J. Herrera, Arthur L. Herrera, Henry Herrera, Joel Herrera, and Joshua Herrera; and his great-grandchildren, Elena R. Herrera, Jerry Herrera, and Lylah Ugalde.

Jerry is further survived by his daughter, Amparo Cordova Castro, along with Johnny Castro, Samuel Rodulfo, Samantha Rodulfo, Carlos Rodulfo, and James Castro.

He is also survived by his stepchildren, Stephanie Chavez, Isaac Chavez, Megan Benitez (Manuel), and Marisa Mendez; and his grandchildren, Richard Chavez (Alyssa), Dorian Chavez (Emily), Aaron Chavez, Ariah Chavez, Jesslyn Benitez, Cayden Benitez, Brennon Benitez, and Anjoli Barron.

Jerry is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Vicci Gutierrez (Robert), Yolanda Carrion, Sylvia Girela Alvarado (Jesse), Irma Burkhart, and Bertha Girela Barrera, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Jerry was a hardworking and devoted family man. He found joy in the outdoors and especially loved gathering with family for barbecues. Above all, he deeply cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to his life. His love, strength, and presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at Castillo Funeral Home, Chapel G1.

Interment will take place on Friday, February 27, 2026, at El Carmen Cemetery, with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. The procession will depart at 10:30 a.m.
