Obituary

Jesse Moreno peacefully entered into eternal rest at 83 years of age on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023, surrounded by the presence and love of his family. He was born on August 29, 1939 in Cotulla, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fernando and Sara Moreno; sisters Delia Lopez, Elder Cruz, and Connie Martinez; brothers Mario Moreno, Lucio Velasquez, and Arturo Moreno; son-in-law Eduardo Calvillo; and grandchildren Amanda Leann Calvillo, Jesse Edward Calvillo, and Miranda Marie Suarez.

He will be deeply missed by Ofelia Moreno, his beloved wife of 59 years. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 18th. He is survived by his brother Alfredo Moreno (Rosa), his 6 children: Norma Hernandez (Justo), Letty Casarez (Donald), Sandra Suarez (Rudy), Juan Moreno Jr (Jessica), Cynthia Calvillo (Richard), Nancy Canela (Santiago), 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.

He loved teasing his wife Ofelia as a way to keep each other smiling and laughing. Yet, he was constantly protective and caring of her. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed playing softball with his Eastside Devils teammates. After every game, they celebrated at the bar, win or lose. When he was a parishioner and member of the Knights of Columbus at St. John Berchman Catholic Church, he coached CYO children's fast-pitch, leading his team to a city championship. He also had the privilege of being an usher for Pope John Paul II and was selected as the KOC family of the year. Jesse retired from driving an 18-wheeler truck for Rinker Concrete after 46 years with no accidents. During his retirement, he loved taking trips to casinos, attending dances at the VFW with friends, and watching home videos or Western movies. He was a well-respected father figure to many. His greatest joy came from visits with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His loss is incomprehensible, but those who knew him will find comfort in the faith he had that everyone will be reunited once again someday.

On behalf of the family, we would like to thank the staff at Main Methodist Hospital for their compassion and commitment towards his care.
We would also like to thank everyone who has brought joy into his life.

A funeral mass will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, August 18, 2023
at Christ the King Catholic Church.
2610 Perez Street, San Antonio, TX, 78201

And as Grandpa would say, "CLOSE DA DOOOW (door)!"
