Joe Carrillo Martinez
Loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Uncle. Passed away peacefully October 17 at the age of 95. He was born on May 10, 1925 in Beeville TX to Apolonia Carrillo and Joe Martinez.
Mr. Martinez served in the Navy from 1943 to 1948, and was an Aviation Electrician's Mate Second Class, He received the World War II Victory Medal, The Philippine Liberation (1 battle star). The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the American Area Campaign Medal.
After the Military Mr. Martinez worked as a butcher in Beeville, Texas at Dean's Red and White grocery store. He later moved his family to Corpus Christi where he worked as an electrician on the Naval Base and a police officer serving the Corpus Christi community. Six years later he moved his family back to Beeville for two more years. And his final move in 1961 was to San Antonio where he resided the rest of his life. He took on a job at Kelly Air Force Base as an aircraft's electrician. Later he worked with John Alberts Air Conditioning Company which gave him valuable experience. With the experience he gained he was head man in charge of air and heating maintenance at the New Moore Building in downtown San Antonio. There was not anything that he could not do, he was a jack of all trades, if something was broken, he could fix it. He was an electrician, mechanic, and carpenter.
Mr. Martinez also enjoyed camping with his family at Garner State Park and enjoyed taking his family to Pecan Valley Park for Easter Celebrations. He was always on the go and enjoyed travelling. He also enjoyed cooking. He was a very good cook, he especially enjoyed making menudo for the holidays as well as his homemade meatballs and spaghetti sauce. And when he was not cooking you could find him at 54 th Street or Dry Dock Oyster Bar two of his favorite restaurants.
Mr. Martinez was always a sharped dress man, those who knew him would tell you that he sure did know how to dress. He would always wear a suit, matching shirt, tie and a hat.
He is survived by his three children son Joseph Martinez, (Letty Rodriguez) daughters Linda Martinez Brown (ex-son-in-law Edward L Brown) and Teresa Faircloth. Six Grandchildren, Audra Serrata, Edward Lee Brown II, Justin Jared Martinez, Brittany Faircloth, Haley Faircloth, and Lauren Camarillo. Ten Great Grandchildren, Nicholas Serrata, Noah Serrata, Melina Serrata, Isaiah Serrata, Brian Below, Cataleya Brown, Kaleigha Brown, Oliver Valdez, Elliot Valdez, and Bentley Rodgers. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his son in law Bryan Faircloth. Mr. Martinez known to his grandchildren as Popo had a Very Blessed life. He lived his life to the fullest and was loved and will greatly be missed.
The family will receive friends at Castillo Mission Funeral home Monday October 26, from 3:00-6:00 with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30. The procession is Tuesday October 27, at 10:00 a.m. from Castillo Funeral home after a 9:30AM Funeral Service at Castillo Mission Funeral Home and interment service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, at 10:45 a.m.
