Obituary

Joe Zertuche Sr, 84, husband of Rosie Garza, went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 7, 1939, in Del Rio, Texas, a son of the late Guadalupe Rangel and Zaragoza Rangel.

Joe accomplished much in life guided by his love for family, drive and passion for success, service to those around him and his faith in the Lord. His faith could never be waivered as he trusted the words of the Lord, attended church as often as he could and prayed for himself and those he loved. He was proud of his time in the military where he served in three branches, the US Army, Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. Joe attended Dunlap Business School and owned and operated a successful wholesale fruits and vegetable business, J. Zertuche & Sons Produce Co. Prior to his retirement he was a valuable employee of companies to include, Piggle Wiggly, Butterkrust, Sunbeam Bread, Morton Foods and Big Shot Fireworks. He was a positive and productive member of the community who was involved in organizations including Little Flower CYO, NCAA umpire Association, Pop Warner football, NCAA Cowboys and the Woodlawn Hills Trojans. He loved sports; playing, coaching or just rooting on his favorite teams like the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and the TJ Mustangs; in all honesty he loved all football and baseball teams. His favorite games to watch were those where his kids and grandkids were participating with. He will be remembered for his enjoyment of hunting, fishing, fireworks but his ultimate pleasure was spending time with his wife, kids and grandchildren. He was always generous with his time, advice, encouragement and genuine love as a present and active husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed and remembered forever until we are all reunited with Joe once again.

In addition to his parents, Guadalupe Rangel and Zaragoza Rangel, he is also preceded in death by his son Jesse R. Zertuche.

Family members include his wife of 65 years Rosie G. Zertuche; children, JoAnn (Alex Jr.) Silva, Dee Ann Guajardo, Joe (Yvette) Zertuche Jr and Jacob (Michelle) Zertuche; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Rangel; in addition to numerous extended family members.
