Obituary

John H. Garza, 97, widower of Anna Valdes Garza, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his residence in San Antonio Texas. He was born on October 31, 1926, in San Benito Texas, a son of the late Hijinia Hernandez and Juan Garza.

John accomplished much in life, all led by his dedication to family, faith and service. He graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Army. John was proud of his service and often reminisced on his time in service as a cannoneer. He believed in a higher power and often found the best way to accomplish his milestones in life were to trust in and pray to the Lord. Family meant the most to him, as a father and husband he was loving, protective and present, always placing the needs of his loved ones above his own. He continued to enjoy that love in those to come, in his grandchildren he found a renewed love and was there to make sure a smile was always on their faces. He was a man who seemed to do conquer anything he set his mind to while still making time for the little pleasures of life; like his hobby of playing his guitar. He will be missed and loved every single day until we see him and those who went before us again.

In addition to his wife of 67 years Anna Valdes Garza, and parents Hijinia Hernandez and Juan Garza, he is also preceded in death by two Sons Ruben Garza and Richard Garza and two brothers Brijido Garza and Alfonso Garza.

Family members include two sons John Garza Jr. and Mike Garza; grandchildren, Monica Gransee, Veronica Carr, Jason Garza, Jessica Gonzalez, Ruben James Garza and Elizabeth Garza; one great great-grandson; in addition to numerous extended family members.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Castillo Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation and at 6:00 pm for a rosary service.

A Chapel Service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in the Castillo Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 am. Burial will follow with a graveside service held in San Fernando III immediately after the Chapel Service
