Johnny "John" Don Zapata passed away on July 25, 2024, surrounded by the grace, warmth and love of his family. Jon was 72 years old. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 13, 1951.
John was born and raised on the Westside of San Antonio on Rivas Street. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1969 and the University of Texas at Dallas in 1973. In the summer of 1973, he married his middle school sweetheart, Mary Helen Torres, who preceded him in death in 1999.
In light of any adversity he faced he continued to find the joy in life. He treasured the beautiful memories he created with his family throughout his 72 years. He was a big fan of Star Wars, the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. Most precious to John and his true love was enjoying Tejano music with his friends and family. John will be missed tremendously.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen, and his parents Louis & Tillie Zapata.
John is loved and will be missed by his daughter, Monica Acevedo (Marcelo); son, Jonathan Zapata (Maria Yvette); siblings, David Zapata (Janie) and Grace Marino (Joel); the light of his life were his 5 amazing grandchildren; his beautiful granddaughters, Ashlee Aldalawi (Mohamed), Sophia Zapata, Olivia Acevedo and Lydia Zapata and his grandson Marcelo Aidan Acevedo; his 2 great-grandsons Liam and Dallas Aldalawi; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
