June 6, 1957 – January 15, 2022
Jose Eduardo Casas passed away peacefully on January 15 th , 2022, at the age of 64. He was born here, in the city he loved, San Antonio, Texas on June 6 th , 1957.
He is preceded in death by his father, Faustino Casas, and his grandson, Nicholas Ramirez.
In the summer of 1973, he married his middle school sweetheart, and they were together until his passing, 48 years later. His wife, Carolina G. Casas, survives him as do his four children (Stephanie R. Casas, January Casas, Christopher N. Casas and Joseph A. Casas) as well as his two grandchildren (Sierra A. Ruiz and Nathaniel Ruiz). His is also survived by his mother, Amalia Moreno; five brothers (Raul "Chuey" Casas, Adam Casas, Abel Casas, Javier Casas, & Noe Casas); two sisters (Tillita M. Casas & Marinna J. Casas); numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Jose served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Cold War. He entered the army at age 23 to the Combat Support Company, 1 st Battalion, 7 th Infantry. He reveled in having driven and maintained the tanks as a Heavy Anti-armor Weapons Infantryman. During his 8 years of service, he received multiple awards for merit and performance. After his honorable discharge in 1987, he continued his service at Kelly AFB as a Material Handler.
He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed teaching his children all the rules of the game. He also loved being in nature and was an avid gardener, spending hours surrounded by his plants. He truly could bring the saddest flower back to life. He instilled the love of nature in his family, creating memories that will be treasured for all time. Equally as precious to Jose was his faith in God. His humor, infectious laugh and guiding light will be missed tremendously.
