Jose P.
Castilleja, Jr.
March 14, 1930 – January 4, 2025
Our beloved Father, Jose Castilleja, passed away on January 4, 2025, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. He was 94 years young and was born in Maxwell, Texas on March 14, 1930.
Jose served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. After serving his country in a war zone, Jose returned and married his sweetheart, Consuelo Cura, moving permanently to San Antonio. Afterwards, he attended Mechanical Technical School under the GI Bill. He went on to buy property and build a home in San Antonio, the one in which he was blessed to reside in, until God called him home. He was devoted to God, St. Jude, (his intercessor who he claimed never failed him in requests), and dedicated to his family and his Civil Service job.
Jose was a simple man, involved in his church as a member of the Holy Name Society, and usher at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at the 7:30 am mass well into his late 80's. If one had to describe him, the words used would be service and unconditional love. He was awarded a plaque for helping with the annual church barbeque for 30+ consecutive years. He enjoyed doing carpentry projects, maintaining his yard, and spending time with family. He had high expectations of his children and valued education dearly, encouraging all to go to college and earn degrees. He was especially proud that his grandchildren were following in their parent's footsteps.
Jose is preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo, Grandson Christopher James Castilleja, 9 siblings, and his parents Jose Sr. and Elena Castilleja.
Out of 11 brothers and sisters, Jose is survived by his remaining brother, Vicente Castilleja, and sister Angelita Castilleja Rodriguez. In addition, he will be loved and dearly missed by his daughter, Hope Castilleja Gonzales (David), sons Jesse Castilleja (Isabel) and Jimmy Castilleja (Yvonne), Grandsons Steven Gonzales (Neysa), David Gonzales III, Elias Duque, Demariz Duque, Matthew Castilleja, Great Grandkids Nasia, Gavino, David Matthew IV , numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Your children will be forever grateful for your love, support, and guidance. Until we meet again, Dad.
