It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Jose Dario Cruz, who died on August 7, 2026, at his home in San Antonio, Texas. He was 64 years old. Jose Dario Cruz was born on January 17, 1962, the son of Paul Cruz Sr. and Nora Medina Cruz. One of eleven siblings, Jose grew up in Rockdale, Texas, surrounded by his large family.

   When Jose was about four years old, he suffered a devastating fire accident that left him with severe burns on his arms, face, and legs. It was an ordeal that would have been difficult for anyone, yet from a very young age, Jose demonstrated the strength and resilience that would define him throughout his life. He was never a man to complain; he simply pressed on with a quiet fortitude that those who knew him came to admire. Jose was highly intelligent and loved to debate. He especially enjoyed discussing politics, and if anyone challenged his point of view, his enthusiasm became immediately apparent. Jose truly relished a lively conversation, particularly when he had the opportunity to lay out his arguments. 

   Jose attended Tarleton State University, where he earned a degree in Hydrology. Later, he began working for Halliburton—a job that would lead to one of the most important moments of his life: meeting Olga. To say Jose was smitten with her would be an understatement. Throughout his life, Jose was a devoted son and a wonderful brother. He was always there for his mother and brought great happiness to her life. The bond they shared was truly special. She loved her Jose, and he loved and cared for her deeply. The story of Jose and Olga began in September 2011. They quickly found themselves head over heels in love, and just four short months later, they were married in a civil ceremony. From that moment on, Jose lovingly embraced Olga’s children—Pablo, Steven, April, and Allison—and raised them as his own, giving them his love, guidance, and unwavering support. 

   Jose was a man with many hobbies. Some of his favorites included golfing, reading, cooking, and volunteering in his community. He truly enjoyed being a civil servant, helping those who needed it without expecting anything in return. Jose will forever be deeply missed by the family he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife, four children, two grandchildren, and countless others whose lives he touched along the way. While his absence is felt greatly, that sorrow is softened by the wonderful memories he leaves behind—memories that will live on in our hearts forever.
