Obituary

Jose Luis (aka Louie) Hernandez, age 68, of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023, in the morning. He was born on March 19, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas to Guadalupe M. Hernandez and the late Julio Hernandez Jr. His brother is Ruben Hernandez of San Antonio, TX and his two sisters are Maria Elena Jaramillo of San Antonio, Texas and the late Elizabeth Ann Lopez of San Antonio, TX.  Louie has five children: Julie Heller, late Jose Luis Hernandez, Nicholas Hernandez, Laura Hernandez, and Lisa Marie Guzman.  He is survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is a descendent of Ramon Hernandez, one of the founding fathers of the San Antonio, TX Trail Blazers – the first trail blazer and transportation wagon freighter in the Southwest.

Early in his life, he was a welder at Freight Masters in Fort Worth, Texas where he worked on tankers.  He also worked as a Welder in San Antonio, TX at the following companies:  Fort Worth Steel, Ashley Welding, and Humphries Welding.  During his spare time, he welded BBQ pits and metal floral art.

He enjoyed grilling BBQ, drinking/smoking, and gardening. He loved watching endless Western shows and listening to country music that he played at a loud volume.  He loved Pasty Cline so much that he named his daughter after Pasty Cline's daughter.  He enjoyed bird watching especially when vibrant cardinals frequented his front yard bird bath.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N General McMullen Dr, San Antonio, TX.  A rosary service will occur on Tuesday, October 10 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Castillo Funeral Home.  On Wednesday October 11,  Family and Friends will meet at 10 :00 a.m.  at St. Louis Catholic Church,  a funeral prayer service will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 1306 Angelo St, Castroville, TX.  Interment will immediately follow after the funeral mass at Saint Louis Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.
