Jose G
Martinez Sr.
April 1, 1943 – March 3, 2023
Jose Griego Martinez Sr, 79, husband of Minerva G. Martinez, went to be with the Lord on Friday night, March 3, 2023, in the Methodist Texsan Hospital. He was born April 1, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas to the late Manuela G. and Raymond Martinez.
Jose, known to many as Joe, lived a life centered in family and lead by the deep faith he had in the Lord. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force and often thought fondly of his time in service. Joe's capacity for generosity knew no bounds as he would help anyone in need with support, encouragement, and guidance. His skills in many different areas made him extremely versatile and could take on a variety of projects. The patience, optimism, persistence, and intellectual curiosity made Joe a fine inventor who truly seemed to have the solution for all of life's problems. Joe was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose loss is immeasurable; however, he will be remembered forever by those he leaves behind.
In addition to his parents, Manuela G Martinez and Raymond Martinez, he was also preceded in death by his son, Joe G Martinez Jr; daughter, Deborah Ann Gujardo; and siblings, Pete Martinez (Amelia), Juan Martinez (Terry), and Jesus Martinez (Lila Martinez).
Family members include his wife of 61 years, Minerva G Martinez; a daughter, Elizabeth Homier (Bob); grandchildren, John Pena, Emily Homier, Bobby Homier, Pearl Mejia, Joey G. Martinez III, and Jacob D. Lozano; great-grandchildren, Joe Anthony Martinez, Angel Martinez, Nathan Mejia, and Andrew Mejia; 2 great great-grandchildren; a sister, Herlinda G. Sanchez (Joe); in addition to numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive guests for visitation from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Castillo Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6:00 pm.
A funeral mass will be conducted on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 10:00 am in San Juan De Los Lagos Catholic Church followed by a graveside service at San Fernando II Catholic Cemetery.
