Obituary

Jose R. Obaya, 86, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by the warmth and love
of his family, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on
October 31, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas.

Jose dedicated more than 40 years of his life to his craft as a barber, retiring in 2001. He took
great pride in his work and the communities he served. Outside of his career, Jose found joy
in life's simple and meaningful pleasures—watching western movies, tending to his garden,
repairing cars and mowers, and baking sweets. His kitchen was always filled with treats, and
his grandchildren knew it as the first place to look when visiting.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Obaya Sr. and Socorro R. Obaya; and his
brother, Manuel Obaya Jr.

A proud father, a hardworking man, and a devoted grandfather, Jose leaves behind a legacy of
love, strength, and cherished memories. He is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his former wife, Gloria E. Obaya of 39 years, and their children, Jose Obaya Jr. (Rebecca); his daughters, Cynthia A. Encina, Alma O. Luna, and Gloria Jane Salazar (Ernest); his 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Isidoro Obaya, and Juan Obaya; his sisters, Estella Obaya, Yolanda Martinez, and Enriqueta Arce; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Jose's presence, kindness, and unwavering love will forever remain in the hearts of those who
knew him.Eternal rest, grant unto Jose, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and
the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen
