"I thank my God upon every remembrance of You." Philippians 1:3
"Joe" as family and friends affectionately knew him, left this world suddenly on April 19,2022 leaving behind an unforgettable memory. Joe will aways be remembered for his mischievous smile and twinkle in his eye whenever he was discussing topics that he was enthusiastic about. Joe was born November 22,1956 to Joseph D. Herndon, Sr. and Ercilia Benavides-Herndon in San Antonio, Texas. Both parents preceded Joe in death.
Joe's easy-going personality, kindness and great generosity blessed him with many friends from all walks
of life. He found it difficult to say "no" to anyone in need. Soon after completing his High School curriculum, Joe joined the US Marines where he served his country honorably. His love of serving extended beyond the Marines to the Texas National Guard, where
he attained rank of Staff Sergeant. For Joe it was always, God, Family, Country.
Joe loved rock music and would spend hours listening to his vinyl collection. His other passion was discussing politics, baseball, football, and attending his cousin, Coach Ben Benavides, Kennedy H.S. football games. Joe is survived by his cherished brothers, Mark A. Herndon, Michael W. Herndon, sister, Angela Herndon-Epstein, nephews, Matthew Tobin Castro, Michael Herndon, Jr., James Herndon, various
cousins, and his beloved cat, Bobby. A last Oorah, brother!
Special Thanks to the community that stood vigilant with the Herndon Family at Joe's death and to Castillo Funeral Home for their quick response.
