Josie G.
Gongora
April 18, 1942 – May 25, 2023
Josie G. Gongora, 81, widow of Hector Gongora, went to be with the Lord on Thursday night, May 25, 2023, at her residence in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on April 18, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas, a daughter of the late Miguel Garcia and Pauline Hawkins.
In her earlier years, Josie was employed at Lockheed Martin as an admin managing and supporting the office. Other employment included working as a seamstress for companies such as Levi's and Gant. Those who knew Josie recognized quickly how much she loved her family and spent many years proudly taking care of her family as a homemaker. She was a woman of faith who belonged to the Bethesda (Mercy) Assembly of God.
Josie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, working in her yard, planting and tending to her flowerbeds, or decorating her home. She was creative and artistic who expressed herself through sewing, oil paintings, and writing poems. Josie took pride in every aspect of her life; she loved beauty and it radiated from the inside out. A mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be missed tremendously and remembered forever by all those who knew her.
In addition to her husband Hector Gongora of 30 years, she is also preceded in death by her parents, Pauline Hawkins, and Miguel Garcia.
Family members include her children, John Edward Colorado, Michael Hector Gongora (Isabel Gongora), and Susan Colorado-Burt (Daniel Colorado-Burt); grandchildren, Katelyn Jane Gongora, Jason Caleb Gongora, Apolonia Angelic Gutierrez, and John Edward Colorado Jr; siblings, Elena 'Helen' Garcia Gonzalez and Paula Reyes; in addition to numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A Chapel Service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 pm.
