Obituary

Jovita Muñoz Peña was granted her angel wings on Saturday, April 18th, 2020 at
the age of 77.
Jovita was born on April 30th, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas to Rafael Muñoz Sr. and
Candelaria Cruz Muñoz.
Spouse of a veteran (Marine), Jovita was an active member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary. She was a devoted Catholic who was a part of the
Bethal Community Church, where she volunteered to help with community
events. She was strong in her faith, serving and praising our Lord. Her hobbies
included cooking, baking, and gardening. Her specialties that will always be
remembered were her tamales, Christmas sugar cookies, upside down pineapple
cake, and chocolate cake, etc. She enjoyed shopping and watching her novelas.
Her favorite music artist was Ruben Ramos, who she had the pleasure to meet
multiple times and became friends with. Finally, she was a proud Dallas Cowboys
and San Antonio Spurs fan.
Jovita was a very special person who was one of a kind. Her presence touched so
many hearts so quick and had a huge impact on so many lives. She was a bright
soul that provided light for those around her and was there to pick them up when
they were down. She had a special gift of making complete strangers who came to
her home feel welcomed and part of her family. She welcomed them with a warm
smile, warm hug, and warm food. She didn't judge them based on their
background, mistakes, or accomplishments. Instead, she accepted and loved
them for who they were and treated everyone equally. She was always there for
people supporting them through their good and bad times. She was the most
unselfish and giving person you could ever meet. She would constantly put others
needs ahead of her own, choosing to give rather than receive.
Jovita shared 52 years of her life married to Rodolpho V. Peña Sr. He was the love
of her life and together they built a love that was beautiful. It was that kind of
love that showed with the simple things they would do with one another.
Whether it was singing to their favorite song, calling each other their sweet
nicknames, or simply by the way they would look at each other when they would
dance. Their love and commitment set an example of what true love should be.
They now continue that love in heaven, dancing in the clouds reunited.
As a mother, Jovita showered her children with unconditional love. She embodied
all the love a mother could possibly offer. She was always there to support and lift
up her children whenever they were feeling down. She was a shield for her
children, protecting them and guiding them through any difficult times. Her love
was endless; it didn't matter how old her children were or how far they were. Her
love continued to grow and become stronger as she grew with her children.
As a grandmother, Jovita made each grandchild feel special and precious. She
cherished all the times she had with her grandchildren. She never missed an
important moment of any of her grandchildren's lives. She was always there for
her grandchildren, whether they were right or wrong. She was there to lend a
listening ear, offer words of wisdom, and prayers for her grandchildren. She was a
fun, kind, strong, loving person that made all her grandchildren proud and blessed
to call her their grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rafael Muñoz Sr. and Candelaria Cruz
Muñoz; husband Rodolpho V. Peña Sr.; daughter Guadalupe Peña; son Rodolpho
M. Peña Jr.; grandson Roland Zuniga Jr.; great-grandson Michael Anthony Mota
Jr.; sisters Petra Arriola and Connie Muñoz; and brother-in-law Tony Castro.
Joivta Muñoz Peña is survived by her seven siblings (and spouses): Lupe Campa
(Juan), Elvira Guzman (Juan), Margie Muñoz, Rafael Muñoz Jr. (Anna), Rosa Rincon
(Raymond), Mary Garza (Carlos), and Eloy Muñoz (Henrietta); six children (and
spouses): Mary Helen Zuniga (Roland Sr.), Cindy P. Trevino (Jose), Debbie Muñoz
(Juan), Joe M. Peña (Theresa), Alice P. Valencia (Jorge), and Joann P. Palacio
(Enrique Jr); 19 Grandchildren; 50 Great-grandchildren; and 1 Great Greatgrandchild.
Jovita was an angel in disguise to many, and her legacy will always live on through
so many family and friends. The "Queen Bee" of the Peña family will forever be
loved and missed. There are no goodbyes for Jovita, as wherever we are, she will
always be in our heart.
