Joye Lee
Smith
September 2, 1944 – February 1, 2024
Joye Lee Smith, 79, went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on September 2, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late Geraldine D. Behnke and Louis E. Smith.
Joye accomplished much in life all guided in the joy of helping others, her love for family and her faith in the Lord. She was a graduate of Frayser High School, Memphis Tennessee. Prior to her retirement she was employed and a revered caretaker with the likes of Scott & White of Waco Texas and at Interim Healthcare, San Antonio, Texas as a nurse's aide and at Christus Santa Rosa Health Care, San Antonio Texas where she volunteered her time and skills. Her talent and skill were prevalent in her crafting, and she was an extraordinary sewer who would needle point and crochet the finest items. Her greatest joy was family, she was always present and often placed the needs of others above her own. Joye's faith was powerful, she believed in the words of the Lord and found the values to be ones to live by. As a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church she made sure to dedicate time for the Lord weekly. With her sure and certain faith, we know one day we will all be reunited with Joye once again, until then may she watch over us.
In addition to her parents Geraldine D. Behnke and Louis E. Smith, she is also preceded in death by her sisters, Teresa Behnke-Foltz, Elizabeth Behnke and Catherine Behnke-Pumarejo.
Family members include her children, Dwain E. (Kuethe) Skrobarcek, Gregory P. (Tammy) Skrobarcek and Brian K. (Kiela) Skrobarcek; 5 grandchildren, Logan Skrobarcek, Landon Skrobarcek, Lathan Skrobarcek, Cole Skrobarcek and Zach Skrobarcek; siblings, Jerre (Bob) Smith-Conner and Carl (Faye) Behnke; in addition to numerous extended aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation and at 6:00 pm for a rosary service.
A funeral mass will be conducted on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 10:00 am in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Burial will follow with a graveside service in Holy Cross Cemetery.
