Juan Manuel Ayala Sr., of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on December 20, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born on August 25, 1950, and lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for his family.
Juan Manuel was the beloved husband of Dora Ayala, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Together, they built a strong and close-knit family that was always at the center of his life.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Josefina Martinez Sandoval and father, Jose Ayala. He is survived by his wife, Dora Ayala; his children: Teresa Aldaco and her husband Eric Aldaco; Monica Ayala Jimenez and her husband Anthony Jimenez; Angelica Walker and her husband Joshua Walker; Annalisa Martinez and her husband Richard Martinez; and his son, Juan Manuel Ayala Jr. He also leaves behind a treasured legacy of 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. They will remain Ayala Strong.
Juan Manuel honorably served 20 years in the United States Air Force. During his distinguished career, he served as a Security Policeman, Recruiter, Technical Instructor, and Director of Morale, Welfare, and Recreation. His service included assignments overseas in England and Germany, as well as stateside in Texas and South Dakota. He received numerous military accolades in recognition of his commitment and excellence. Following his military retirement, he continued serving his community through his work with USAA and the City of San Antonio, including the San Antonio Police Department.
In his personal life, Juan Manuel found great joy in working in his yard and creating lasting memories with his family. He proudly built an amazing playground for his children, a reflection of his hands-on nature and devotion as a father. He will also be fondly remembered for his award-winning chili, a beloved tradition he shared by passing his secret recipe to his closest loved ones.
Juan Manuel Ayala Sr. will be remembered as a man of integrity, service, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will live on through the generations he leaves behind and the many lives he touched.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m., at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. General McMullen, San Antonio, Texas 78228.
Mass Ceremony will take place on Friday, January 9, at 9:00 a.m. at Divine Providence Church, 5667 Old Pearsall Road, San Antonio, Texas.
Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
