Obituary

Juan Luis Huerta, 67, of San Antonio, TX passed away on May 30, 2024. He was born on August 25th, 1956 to Isabel & Santos Huerta.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sonia; his mother and father Isabel & Santos; his mother-in-law Janie; Son, Juan G. Huerta, (Sarah) his grandchildren Maya and Lucas; brothers Santos III (Sandy); Patrick (Margie), Adrian (Anita), his nieces and nephews, Bonnie, Elaine, Santos, Jennifer, Veronica, Patrick, Samantha, Andy, Adrianna, Adrian, and Bryan, and numerous cousins.

Juan was an active member of the community, and spent his time reconnecting with old friends from his youth. Juan Huerta grew up attending St. James the Apostle Catholic School, and continued his Catholic education at Central Catholic and was a proud graduate of class of 1974. Juan continued his education at San Antonio Community College.

Juan started his career working as a transport operator for Goodwill, and then transferred to VIA where we worked as a bus operator for 37 years, where he retired in 2016. He loved being a VIA driver, and getting to talk to people from all walks of life. If you had a chance to talk to him, he always had a bus story to share with you. And if you were late for a bus, he may have been the one to leave you running after him. He loved the VIA bowling league, the dances, the socials, everything that had to do with gathering with his fellow operators. They were his crew, and he continued the love for them into his participation in the Amalgamated Transit Union Chapter 694. If there was a plate sale, or a hamburger sale, you can guarantee he was working the grill, and selling tickets.

Almost as much as he loved his Operators, he loved his Alamo City Cheeseheads. He was a proud member of the Packer fandom, and he took great pride in being the lone Packer fan in a sea of Cowboys fans. If he wasn't wearing Central Catholic gear, or a Union shirt, it was a Packer shirt and hat.

All of that doesn't compare for the love that he shared with his family and friends. Juan was always there for everyone he met. He would listen to your troubles, and not judge you for your decisions. He was a jokester, that would always crack a joke in times of seriousness, and be there to help if you needed it. He came to the aid of so many people, even when he didn't always have a lot to give. Juan cared about everyone and everything, and if it isn't apparent enough Juan had a big heart.

Juan will be truly missed for his love, compassion, and humor in the lives of his family and friends.

Viewing and services for Juan will be held on Wednesday, June 12, from 4pm to 8pm at Castillo Funeral Home Chapel, 520 N. General McMullen, with a Rosary Service at 6pm.
