March 1, 1951 – February 6, 2024
Juan Jose Lara Sr, 72, husband of Sofia Alvarez Lara, went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2024, at his residence in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on March 1, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, a son of the late Tomasa Alviso.
Juan led a remarkable life filled with his passions and accomplishments. He was a graduate of Lanier High School with the class of 1970. He also served his country in the United States Air Force for 37 years. He was awarded numerous medals, decorations, badges and ribbons for all of his sacrifice given to the United States Air Force. Juan was known for being an avid San Antonio Spurs and San Francisco 49ers fan. He especially loved time with his family where time spent with his grandkids brought him the greatest joy.
We will forever cherish the memories of Juan's remarkable life and the impact he made on all those who knew him.
In addition to his mother, Tomasa Alviso, he is also preceded in death by a grandmother, Quironia Rodriguez.
Family members include his wife of 51 years Sofia Alvarez Lara; a son Juan Jose Lara Jr. (Nellie Adriana Lara); 2 granddaughters, Sophia Grace Lara and Julianna Kennedy Lara; 2 sister, Janie Shults and Gloria Alviso; sister's-in-law, Lala Alvarez, Pauline Jacques and Stella De La Garza (Fred De La Garza); brother's-in-law, Jesus F. Alvarez and Richard Alvarez; in addition to numerous extended family members.
The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home for two days, on Sunday, February 25, 2024, and on Monday, February 26, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The Holy Rosary will be recited on Monday at 6:00 pm.
A funeral mass will be conducted on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at 09:30 am. Burial will follow with a committal service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:15 am.
