Juan Manuel Martinez Borda, 81, husband of Maria Del Carmen Martinez, died Friday afternoon (January 6, 2023) at his residence surrounded by his loving family in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on January 4, 1942, in Reata, Coahuila, Mexico, a son of the late Maria Borda Martinez and Jose Martinez Rocha.
Prior to his retirement at the age of 75, Juan was the successful owner of a construction company for over 40 years. With faith playing an important part of his life, Juan was a member of Templo Elim Assembly of God. He was also a member of Church of God Calles and belonged to the church's quartet. In his free time Juan enjoyed the sport of Volleyball and baseball. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing and hunting. He especially loved spending his free time outdoors with his cattle and his bull "Destroyer". He was a family man generous with his time, support, encouragement, and love. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be remembered forever.
In addition to his parents, Maria Borda Martinez and Jose Martinez Rocha, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Martinez Garcia; granddaughter, Raelynn De La Cruz; and siblings, Ricardo Martinez, Cleotilde Tellez, Evangelina Martinez, Mario Martinez, and Matilde Martinez.
Family members include his wife of 64 years, Maria Del Carmen Martinez; children, Herminia Medina (Carlos), Martina Juarez (Steve), Patricia De La Cruz (Rene), Mary Del Carmen Prieto (late husband Albert), Juanita Pena (Ray Anthony), and Juan Martinez Jr; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jose Martinez; a sister, Herlinda Martinez (Francisco); in addition to numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive guests from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Castillo Funeral Home for visitation and a prayer service beginning at 6:00 pm.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, January 20, 2023, in the Castillo Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in San Jose Burial Park following the chapel service.
