Katherine M. Silva, our beloved sister, was called home to be with our Lord on January 25, 2021. She was born February 11, 1959 and is loved and missed by her husband of eight years, Martin Silva, Jr. and her family. She is survived by her daughter Leticia Dolores Collins, son Gregory Michael Duke and her grandchildren, Sabrina, Vanessa, and David. Also surviving her are her mother Maria L. Morado, her sisters Lydia A. Morado, sister Joan L. and brother-in law Roger Rodriguez, sister Olga C. and brother-in-law David Gomez, sister Margaret R. and brother-in-law James Blackmon and numerous cousins, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her sister Maria Theresa Morado in 2011. She is also preceded in death by her father Domingo Jose F. Morado, who she lost at the age of ten, as a casualty of the Vietnam war and is listed as one of the 52 heroes on the Edgewood Vietnam Memorial monument at Edgewood Veterans Stadium on the campus of Kennedy H.S. in San Antonio.
Kathy was known as Mrs. Claus during the holidays as she and her husband would make the rounds as Mr. and Mrs. Claus to pass out gifts to school children and other groups. She was a talented musician who played the piano and for a short time enjoyed singing with a mariachi group. She was also a longtime choir member at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Most recently she learned to play the drums and was a member of the SA Community Band.
Kathy graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a degree in education. She was a primary school teacher for many years and retired from Edgewood ISD. She was a member and had close associations with Compadres for Scholarships, The Edgewood Ladybugs (retired educators), the American Legion, San Antonio Armed Forces Parade Association, local VFW and VFW Auxiliary, Military Order of the Coodies (MOC) and Coodies Auxiliary (MOCA), Mystic Knights, Santa's Cruisers, The Edgewood Lions Club, The Compadres for Scholarships in EISD and Sons and Daughters in Touch.
