Obituary

Manuel Saldivar, Sr., born June 19, 1938, in Pearsall, Texas, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in his home in Poteet, Texas, surrounded by the love of the family he cherished. He was the beloved son of Zacarias and Sara Saldivar†, and from the very beginning, he carried the warmth, humor, and generosity that would define his entire life.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Saldivar, the love of his life. Manuel was preceded in death by his siblings: Jose Saldivar, Delores Josefina Saldivar, Teresa Saldivar, Carmen Montelongo, and Guadalupe Lerma — all of whom he loved deeply and carried in his heart throughout his life.

In his early twenties, Manuel met the love of his life — a beautiful young woman named Mary, who became his partner, his joy, and his constant for 65 remarkable years. Their love story was the heart of their home, and together they built the large, lively family Manuel always dreamed of.

Manuel and Mary were blessed with eight children:

Manuel Saldivar Jr., Joe Saldivar (Rosemary), Terry Montelongo (Andy), Sara Saldivar†, Martin Saldivar (Gabby), Mark Saldivar (Melissa), Helen Contreras (Vincent), and Stephen Saldivar.

Their family grew into a legacy of 29 grandchildren and 50 great‑grandchildren, a living testament to the love, faith, and devotion Manuel poured into every generation.

Manuel was a traditionalist, a man who believed deeply in family, responsibility, and respect. He was the head of the household, and he carried that role with strength, pride, and unwavering commitment. He demanded respect not out of ego, but out of the belief that honoring one another keeps a family strong. Above all, he loved God, and his faith guided the way he lived, loved, and led.

He worked at Save Cleaners well into his seventies, never wanting to retire because he loved staying active and connected to people. When he finally did step back, he and Mary enjoyed traveling — visiting family in Georgia and Arizona, and making memorable trips to Coushatta Casino, where he loved to gamble, laugh, and enjoy life.

Manuel embraced joy with his whole heart. He was funny, always happy, and endlessly giving. He never judged anyone. He loved to sing, dance, and tell stories — often making up songs or tales on the spot, leaving everyone around him laughing. His humor was effortless, his kindness natural, and his presence comforting.

He celebrated a beautiful week of milestones just before his passing:

65 years of marriage on June 18, his birthday on June 19, and Father’s Day on June 21.

It feels fitting that nearly an entire week now belongs to him — a man who filled every day with life.

Manuel had countless friendships and kept up with people in his own unique way — reading the obituaries daily to stay informed about old friends. It was his way of honoring the connections he made throughout his life.

He will be missed every single day by those who loved him. His laughter, his stories, his gentle heart, his faith, and his unwavering love for his family will continue to echo through generations. Manuel leaves behind a legacy built on tradition, devotion, and joy — a legacy that will never fade.
