Marcela C.
Cortez
October 30, 1922 – September 12, 2024
Marcela C. Cortez passed away on September 12, 2024. Surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born in Selma, Texas on October 30th, 1922, and lived to be 101 years old.
Marcela was the mother of seven children. Having one of the toughest jobs on this earth, she was a homemaker and made our home as special, pleasant, and comfortable as she could. She took sewing classes and made clothes for all her children, so we had clothes for school. Once we were all grown and out of the house, she put her time and efforts as a housekeeper at St Agnes Church for many years. Marcela was a member for the Guadalupana of Sacred Heart Church, PTA president of Margil Elementary and Treasurer of the arts and crafts group at St Agnes Church. She was an avid dancer and even better seamstress. She was a wise, determined, strong willed, and capable woman with a passion to gain as much knowledge as she could to help her family with life's curve balls.
Marcela was predeceased by her beloved mother Abundia Tristan, father Juan Campa Sr., sister Mercedes Campa, brothers Faustino Campa Sr., Juan Campa Jr., Alejandro Campa Sr. and great granddaughter Mina Rene Garza. She is survived by Ana Maria Suarez widow (Vicente), Ricardo C Cortez (Hope), Alice Cortez Ramon (Robert), Sandra Cortez Hernandez widow (Armando Sr.), Roman S Cortez Jr., Sylvia Knight widow (Jeffrey), and Carlos Cortez (Diane); 20 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Services will be held at Castillo Funeral Home on September 26, 2024, at 4PM – 8PM (rosary at 6PM) and funeral on September 27, 2024, at 9:30AM departure to St Agnes Catholic Church for 10AM mass. Her final resting place will be at San Fernando Cemetery II.
