Marcelo Zapata Barron Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Marcelo Zapata Barron Jr., who passed away on September 15, 2026, at the age of 62.

Marcelo was born on December 20, 1963, in San Antonio, Texas, the city he called home throughout his life.

Marcelo was a father, grandfather, partner, family member, and friend whose life touched many people. He will be remembered for his strength, independence, determination, and love for his family. He was also a man of strong Catholic faith, and his relationship with God remained an important source of comfort and strength throughout his life.

For many years, Marcelo worked as a bus operator for VIA Metropolitan Transit, serving the San Antonio community and meeting countless people along the way. His work gave him plenty of opportunities to do something he was especially good at—talking to people and making them laugh.

Anyone who truly knew Marcelo knew that he came with a sense of humor all his own. He was known for his raw, unfiltered humor, and no one around him was ever completely safe from one of his jokes or pranks. He loved making people laugh, sometimes catching them completely off guard, and he had a way of turning an ordinary moment into a story people would remember and repeat for years. His jokes, pranks, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by everyone fortunate enough to have experienced them.

Marcelo faced many challenges throughout his life, but he continued forward with a strength that those closest to him will never forget. He valued his independence, did things his own way, and never wanted to feel like a burden to the people he loved. Even through difficult times, that stubborn and independent spirit remained a defining part of who he was.

To his children, he was simply Dad. The conversations, laughter, lessons, disagreements, good times, difficult times, and countless memories they shared with him will forever remain a part of them. His passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, but it also leaves behind a lifetime of stories that his family will continue to tell.

Marcelo is survived by his children, grandchildren, family members, and loved ones who will continue to honor his memory and share the stories of the man they knew and loved. We take comfort in our faith and in believing that he is now at peace in the presence of God and reunited with those who went before him.

Our family would like to thank everyone who has reached out with prayers, kind words, photographs, memories, and support during this difficult time. Hearing stories about Marcelo and seeing him through the eyes of friends, coworkers, and others whose lives he touched has meant more to us than words can express.

Although his journey here has ended, his humor, his stories, his faith, and the impact he made on his family will continue through the generations that follow him.
