Margaret P.
Girela
January 17, 1934 – October 30, 2021
The highest calling of this life is to walk with God.
On October 30, 2021, Margaret Evelyn Perez Girela, long- time resident in San Antonio, Texas, passed from this life into her eternal home in heaven. She was born on January 17, 1934, in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota. She now dwells with our Lord Jesus Christ, her husband of many years Robert Girela, Sr., her Mother Anita Solis, her grandson Jerry Herrera, and her great-great grandchildren Andrew and Alejandro Girela.
Margaret is survived by her eleven children: Victoria Anita Gutierrez (Robert), Martha Mora, Manuel Mora, Yolanda Girela-Carrion, Sylvia Girela- Alvarado (Jesse), Robert Edward Girela (Frances), Irma Girela -Burkhart, Alexandra Girela, Andrew Girela, Sr. (Letecia), Jerry A. Girela (Lorraine), Bertha Girela-Barrera. She is also survived by 33 Grandchildren, 101 Great Grandchildren and 49 Great-Great Grandchildren, her siblings, and a host of cousins.
Mom loved the Lord and is responsible for leading all her children to him. She also pointed others to heaven the place she now dwells. We will hold her in our hearts and minds until in heaven we will meet again.
A stay-at-home mom she raised all her children and helped raise some of her grandchildren. She was called "Mom", "Wela" or "GG". It just depended on how far along the line you were.
Memories of days gone by are, trips where all the kids on Violeta Place piled up into my father's truck as they took us to Calaveras Lake and other swimming holes in the area for the day. Of Fiesta time when we would go early in the morning to get a spot to sit and wait for the parade to start. Of seeing her all dressed up as we got older in her Mexican attire along with something in her hair. She loved going to the Market Square to taste all that Mexican food especially the gorditas.
At one point Mom took up crocheting. She made blankets, booties, hats or just whatever she could think of making. Some of us have blankets for our beds and blankets for our children or grandchildren which will be treasured and passed on down.
She loved Folgers coffee but it had to be instant. And oh! how she loved and supported her Dallas Cowboys. On Sundays it was football day for her.
One thing that I will always remember is her home. When you walked in it was like walking into a museum. If you gave her a photo she proudly displayed it.
So now it's time for her to go to glory land and it's not goodbye mom. It's until we meet again.
