Marguerite S. Gonzalez
May 13, 1939 – February 24, 2024
Marguerite Salazar Gonzalez, 85 years, went to be seated at the precious Right Hand of her Heavenly Father on February 24, 2025. She was married to her deceased husband Rafael Contreras Gonzalez for 59 years. Marguerite Salazar Gonzalez was born on May 13, 1939, to her loving parents Mr. Cruz Salazar and Josefina Cisneros Salazar, in San Antonio, TX. She was the fourth out of six children and early on demonstrated a brave warrior spirit with sunshine humorous wit. Her legacy influenced several souls as she took tremendous joy serving GOD through St. Philips of Jesus Church where she was Treasury, Grupo de Oracion, Crusios Ministry, Door to Door communion for seniors, often visited Nursing Homes for Ministry, ACTS Retreats, and hosted several Bible Studies at her home. Praying and lifting family, neighbors, strangers, and those the least among us is who she always served with a loving heart. She was a strong faithful woman who gave clothes off her back and food for those in need. No one left her home without her blessing and if that happened her middle son Rojelio Gonzalez had to run and get the guests back into the house for her special blessing. She was a strong believer in Daniel, her Guardian Angel. Psalm:91 was her favorite verse.
In her early years she demonstrated bold fearlessness when she married her husband Rafael Contreras Gonzalez at eighteen years old and quickly learned to overcome challenges and struggles. She deeply loved her husband. Together they rode a rollercoaster but never gave up or quit. This character influenced her children to be strong, brave, but always remaining humble. Her two grandchildren (Roland Garrett Gonzalez and Brianna Jeanett Gonzalez) were deeply loved, cared for, and cherished by Marguerite Salazar Gonzalez whom they called AMA. The Grandchildren are already living her character by being highly involved in Ministry and Graduating from Texas A&M San Antonio.
Marguerite Salazar Gonzalez had a fulfilling life of laughter, joy, parties, music, dancing, and all kinds of fireworks. Her tiny little home hosted big parties mainly for New Year's Eve and Easter. Delicious aroma in her kitchen always pleased her family's appetite. Her smile was contagious and radiant, always filled with joy during family gatherings. Of course, her husband Rafael C. Gonzalez along with Marguerite S. Gonzalez started a tradition with the COWBOYS! The famous Easter Egg Hunts were a hit with the kids, including adults who got into the act. Once a year there were the trips to the Coast, specifically Port A, where the children and grandkids learned how to fish, swim, sleep at the beach, fishing boat rides, and feasting on seafood.
As time went on Marguerite Salazar Gonzalez started dealing with health issues, but through it all she showed such courage and strength. She taught all of us that no mountain was high enough to climb over. Until her body got weak, and it was time to meet Jesus in Heaven. Truly an inspiration for all of us to witness a frail woman muster so much strength to deal with her health. Her children and grandchildren provided the same care she needed as she gave when they were young. She was surrounded by an extended family that treated her as their own mother. Light attracts Light that lead to her destination in Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Salazar, her husband Rafael C. Gonzalez, her brothers, Guadalupe Salazar, Cruz Manuel Salazar Jr. and sisters Mary Lou Bonner, and Delfina Mojica
She is also survived by four children, San Juanita Gonzalez, Rafael Gonzalez, Rojelio Gonzalez, and Rolando Gonzalez (Yvonne Gonzalez), her grandchildren Roland Garrett Gonzalez, and Brianna Jeanett Gonzalez including her only sister Dolores Urquizo.
Marguerite S. Gonzalez was the Matriarch who was loved, adored, by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, her sister, and sisters-in-law. The Gonzalez family truly appreciates the kind gestures, love, support, and light extended during this time of enormous loss.
