Carmela, as she was called by friends and family, was a devout Catholic and dedicated her life on being the best mom, grandmother and wife. Her family moved to the city of San Luis Potosi, Mexico where while working in the home goods section of a department store she met her husband Roberto Salas and later married in 1979. They made their way to the US and established their first home in Chicago, IL. Carmen filled any room she was in with warmth and greeted everyone with a friendly smile. Always willing to help anyone in need and any visitor she received in her home, she would ask if they were hungry and offered a meal. Growing up in Mexico's countryside, she always was a nature lover and tended to her plants. She also loved music and would have her radio turned on as soon as she woke up. Latin American artists from the 70s and 80s and disco were among her favorites. Carmela will be remembered for being a great friend and listener and making her family her top priority.
Carmela is loved and will be very much missed by her husband Roberto Salas; children Mary Jo Salas, son-in-law Chris Barron; Robert Salas and Christian Salas. Her beloved grandchildren Ulises, Grecia, Rylynn Chavez, 7 siblings and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
