Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Asunción Carver Ortega on
January 6, 2025, at the age of 73. Maria was born on May 12, 1951 in Cuquio, Jalisco, Mexico,
to Enrique Rodriguez Barrera and Maria de Jesus Villalobos Romo.]

Maria is survived by her husband, Miguel Ortega, her children, Mark Carver, Laura Carver and
wife Jancee Sanchez, Jeff Carver and wife Lisa, and Cathy Hinojosa; grandchildren Lucas and
Penelope Carver; sisters Sylvia Stout and Josefina Zurita; brother Jose Rodriguez Villalobos, and
countless nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved family by marriage. Maria was preceded in death
by her mother Maria de Jesus Villalobos Romo; daughter Norma Jean Hinojosa; and niece Anna
Sylvia Rodriguez.

Maria was a proud business owner, running a Mexican restaurant that was a neighborhood
favorite, as well as selling Mexican wares at the Mission Flea Market in her later years. Maria's
warmth and irresistible sense of humor drew people to her, creating countless cherished
friendships. She was a true friend to so many, always offering kindness and warmth to everyone
she met. Her presence touched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and
unforgettable memories.

Visitation will be held at Castillo Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 5-8 PM. Funeral Procession will depart the Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m. for an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Leonard Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
