Maria Magdalena Chavez Ortiz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was called to heaven on Sunday, November 7th, 2021 at the age of 65.

Maria was born in San Antonio, Texas where she was raised by her loving mother, father, and siblings. She was the youngest of her siblings. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School and went on to San Antonio College. She found the love of her life, Joe Ortiz Jr. They enjoyed life together and got married on June 3rd, 1983. They had two beautiful children, Denise and Michael Ortiz. Maria and her husband loved their family with all of their heart. On February 18th, 2005 her beloved Joe was called to be with the Lord.

Losing her husband was one of many hardships Maria had to face. Despite those hardships, she faced them head on with resilience and a smile. No matter what she endured, Maria was always there for others and extended her hand out. She was loving, affectionate, understanding , and always supportive. She raised her children and gave them the best that life had to offer. She loved her children and grandson unconditionally and with every fiber of her being. What made her happy was helping others in need. Maria impacted their lives with love and happiness right to the very end.

Maria is loved by many and will be missed by her daughter Denise Ortiz; son Michael Ortiz; grandson Joey Ortiz; as well as her siblings, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Visitation will take place at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. General McMullen, San Antonio, Texas 78228 on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 3:30pm until 8:00pm with a Prayer Service to begin at 6:00pm. On Wednesday, December 1, 2021 family and friends will depart at 11:15am from Castillo Funeral Home for a 12:00pm Mass at St. Jude Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
