Maria Elena Hernandez, 79, wife of Alfonso P. Hernandez, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at her residence in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on August 5, 1944, in Piedras Negras, Mexico, a daughter of the late Dolores and Vicente Jimenez

Maria lived a life devoted to her family and faith. As a wife she was loving and devoted, always valuing the needs of her husband above her own. As a mother she was nurturing and caring, always present and supportive throughout her children's lives. As a grandmother she was the best anyone could ask for, always there to put a smile on their faces and keep warmth in their hearts. Maria's faith played a huge role in the way she devoted herself to others. She attended mass regularly at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church and cherished the bonds she created in that community. She enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas time as it was the opportunity to be together with her family, times that made her truly happy. Maria was a 1950's Rock n Roller she loved to dance and especially enjoyed listening to the tunes of Elvis Presley and Freddy Fender. Until reunited once again her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who were lucky enough to know her.

In addition to her parents, Dolores and Vicente Jimenez, she is reunited in heaven with her siblings, Baby Boy Pedro Jimenez, Gloria Trujillo, Roberto Jimenez, and Irma Ynclan.

Family members include her husband of 49 years, Alfonso P. Hernandez Sr; son, Alfonso M. Hernandez; daughter, Christina E. Salazar; grandchildren, Emerald M. (John) Rios, Amber N. Salazar, Amanda R. Salazar, Dominic A. Orozco and Fernando J. Rios; siblings, Frank Jimenez, Marcos Jimenez, Dora Martinez, Isabel Rivas and Felicitas Perez; in addition to numerous extended family and friends.

The family will receive guest at Castillo Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for visitation and a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m.

A funeral mass will be conducted on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the San Fernando Cemetery II Mausoleum
